Our History

Founded by Phill Armour
Phill Armour started the business in 1975 with a single Leyland Super Comet. Operating from Essex, the company built its first port relationships at the UK's major container terminals — a foundation that still underpins the business today.

25 Years of Growth
Over two and a half decades, Armour Transport built a reputation for reliable port haulage from Essex. The fleet grew, port relationships deepened, and the company became a trusted name in the container haulage sector.

Purfleet Yard — Compulsory Purchase
In 2000, Armour Transport's Purfleet yard was compulsorily purchased by the government to make way for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (High Speed 1). Phill Armour retired. The history of the business was paused — not ended.

Reformed by James Armour
In 2018/2019, James Armour — Phill's son — restarted the business under the Armour Transport name. New fleet, new compliance standards, same family values and the same Essex ports. Armour Transport is reformed with Euro 6 vehicles, ULEZ compliance, and DVS safety equipment — built for the modern port haulage environment.

Phill and James Armour together represent over 40 years of combined industry experience. The company operates 24/7 from Essex, serving Felixstowe, Southampton, London Gateway, and Tilbury with a fully compliant, modern fleet. RHA member. Euro 6. ULEZ. DVS. The family business Phill started in 1975 is moving containers again.
